  • 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm FUSE Summit Welcome Reception

Thursday, Sep. 7

  • 7:00 am - 8:00 am Networking Breakfast
  • 8:00 am - 8:10 am Game Plan for Day 2 of FUSE
  • 8:10 am - 8:55 am Beyond The Channel: Mapping the Social Graph | More

Publishers and their business models have been based around distribution channels since the dawn of print: magazines and newspapers were sent out, and audiences, revenue streams, and content formats hinged largely on how and who received them. But it’s inevitable that as digital platforms diversify and proliferate, approaching audiences by channel is becoming increasingly untenable.

In this session, former COO of the NYT Global division of The New York Times James Slezak will explore recent advances in data science that offer the prospect of moving beyond the channel. The ability to analyze the social graph, directly observing communities that people self-organize into and the clusters of interests and beliefs within them, are powerful weapons for getting the right media and messages to the right people — a core need for publishers and their advertisers.

  • 8:55 am - 9:45 am Results of Research Study on Tech Adoption Strategies in Publishing | More

In the Digital Era, implementing the right technology may be the single biggest challenge and opportunity for publishers today. The right technology can yield operational efficiency, cost savings, and above all, revenue. The wrong technology can eat up valuable time, resources, and mental bandwidth.

Publishing Executive, in collaboration with NAPCO Research, has produced this Special Report on Technology Adoption Strategies in Publishing to better understand what publishers’ objectives are when investing in new technologies, what considerations they make when choosing a technology, how they’re budgeting for technology investments, and what technologies are driving the most revenue. This session will be the debut release of this report, revealing insights that can help executives refine their own technology investment strategy, and feature commentary from a panel of FUSE advisors.

    Speakers

Nathan Safran, Director of Research, NAPCO Media
    Denis Wilson, Editor-in-Chief, Publishing Executive
    Jeff Litvack, CEO, Adweek
Michael Dugan, CTO, Hearst Magazines Digital Media
