  • 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm FUSE Summit Welcome Reception

Thursday, Sep. 7

  • 7:00 am - 8:00 am Networking Breakfast
  • 8:00 am - 8:10 am Game Plan for Day 2 of FUSE
  • 8:10 am - 8:55 am Beyond The Channel: Mapping the Social Graph | More

Publishers and their business models have been based around distribution channels since the dawn of print: magazines and newspapers were sent out, and audiences, revenue streams, and content formats hinged largely on how and who received them. But it’s inevitable that as digital platforms diversify and proliferate, approaching audiences by channel is becoming increasingly untenable.

In this session, former COO of the NYT Global division of The New York Times James Slezak will explore recent advances in data science that offer the prospect of moving beyond the channel. The ability to analyze the social graph, directly observing communities that people self-organize into and the clusters of interests and beliefs within them, are powerful weapons for getting the right media and messages to the right people — a core need for publishers and their advertisers.

  • 8:55 am - 9:45 am Media Tech Stack & Strategy Survey Results | More

In the Digital Era, implementing the right technology may be the single biggest challenge and opportunity for publishers today. It’s certainly one of the biggest concerns, occupying the focus of media executives in all functions and seniority levels. The right tech that fits with a publisher’s existing tech stack can yield operational efficiencies, cost savings, and above all, revenue. The wrong technology can eat up valuable time, resources, and mental bandwidth.

Publishing Executive, in collaboration with NAPCO Research, conducted a survey to better understand what publishers’ objectives are when investing in new technologies, what important considerations they make when choosing a technology, how they’re budgeting for technology investments, and what technologies are helping publishers drive revenue. This session will share the results of that research and reveal insights that can help executives refine their own technology investment strategy.

    Speakers
    Denis Wilson, Editor-in-Chief, Publishing Executive
Nathan Safran, Director of Research, NAPCO Media
